As can be seen from the pictures below this Small 1930’s Solid English Oak, Drop-Leaf Library Table came to us as an almost total basket case having lain unwanted in an old dry barn for a number of decades.
The original glued and doweled joints had desiccated and blown and it was already in several pieces with the remainder barely hanging together.
Upon closer inspection we found no sign of woodworm or other decay so it was a good candidate for Restoration & Repair.
The project involved the complete disassembly of the table which allowed us to thoroughly clean and inspect all the various parts clean out all the original old glue and replace some of the dowels that had been damaged.
The top being quite heavily stained required gently resurfacing and the hinges on one of the drop leaves were replaced.
The whole table was then reassembled and refinished using shellac and a few final coats of good quality wax furniture polish.
